Been building new furniture for my home office today. New room, new gear, everything is awesome.
BUT.
Building furniture reminded me of how important it is to sell using both the carrot AND the stick.
I'm a big fan of selling with positivity. Talking about the good things that are going to happen because they buy your stuff.
I still feel that way.
But you also have to gently remind them of how crappy it's going to feel if they make the WRONG decision.
A furniture building guy could have gotten my attention by saying he'd be happy to help me assemble my new furniture. Could have made the sale if he painted the picture of me sitting in the office, surrounded by boxes, trying your hardest to stay sane as you put together ANOTHER cabinet.
That would have sold me.
But that didn't happen. So now I'm still surrounded by boxes, tools, and shitty diagrams.
Could have avoided all of this for a few hundred dollars.
Lesson for today: carrot AND stick.
